The reason for transforming the voltage to a much higher level is that higher distribution voltages implies lower currents for the same power and therefore lower I 2 R losses along the networked grid of cables. These higher AC transmission voltages and currents can then be reduced to a much lower, safer and usable voltage level where it can be used to supply electrical equipment in our homes and workplaces, and all this is possible thanks to the basic  Voltage Transformer . The  Voltage Transformer  can be thought of as an electrical component rather than an electronic component. ENERGY RESOURCES:           Energy sources can be classified into two types. They are renewable and non-renewable sources of energy. Non renewable:          Non renewable resources, such as fossil fuels and nuclear material, are removed from the earth and can be depleted. These resources have been the most used type of energy in the modern era. i) Coal:        Coal is a non renewable fossil fuel produced worldwide. It is formed when millions of years of pressure and heat turn the remains of prehistoric forests and swamps into coal. Coal is taken out of the earth either by deep mining(tunnelling underground) or strip mining(digging out layers of earth). It exists in different grades or qualities.        Coal is used predominantly to produce electricity and to provide fuel for industries that require large amounts of heat. Solar Power:                   Solar power is the the conversion of the energy from the sun to usable electricity. The most common source of solar power utilizes photovoltaic cells to convert sunlight into electricity. Photovoltaics utilize a semi-conductor to absorb the radiation from the sun, when the semi-conductor abosrbs this radiation it emits electrons, which are harnessed as electricity.  Advantages of Solar:             Solar energy is a resource that is not only sustainable for energy consumption, it is indefinitely renewable (at least until the sun runs out in billions of years). Solar power can be used to generate electricity, it is also used in relatively simple technology to heat water (solar water heaters). Working of Solar Panel: The solar cells on the calculation and satellites are also called photovoltaic (PVC) cells, Which as the name implies (photo meaning light and voltaic meaning electricity), convert sunlight directly into the electricity. A module is a group of cells connected electrically and packaged into a frame (more commonly known as solar panel), which can then be grouped into large solar arrays. Photovoltaic cells are made of special materials called semiconductors such as silicon, which is currently used most commonly. Measurement of solar Radiation: Solar radiation data are measured mainly by the following instruments: i) Pyranometer:       A pyranometer is designed to measure global radiation, usually on a horizontal surface, but can also be used on an inclined surface. When shaded from beam radiation by using a shaded ring, a pyranometer measure diffuse radiation. ii) Pyrheliometer:       An instrument that measures beam radiation by using a long narrow tube to collect only beam radiation from the sun at normal incidence iii) Sunshine Recorder:       It measures the Sun shine hours in a day. Solar energy can be utilized directly in two ways: i) By collecting the radiant heat and using it in a thermal system or ii) By collecting and converting it directly to electrical energy using a photo voltaic system.

Renewable Resources

Renewable Resources: Renewable resources   are resources that are replenished by the environment over relatively short periods of time. This type of resource is much more desirable to use because often a resource renews so fast that it will have regenerated by the time you've used it up. Think of this like the ice cube maker in your refrigerator. As you take some ice out, more ice gets made. If you take a lot of ice out, it takes a little more time to refill the bin but not a very long time at all. Even if you completely emptied the entire ice cube bin, it would probably only take a few hours to 'renew' and refill that ice bin for you. Renewable resources in the natural environment work the same way. Solar energy is one such resource because the sun shines all the time.
